Srinagar, February 09 (KNO) : In a first of its kind, the state government has arranged special flights for students who had to appear in GATE exams outside valley. It's for the first time that state administration led by Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik has taken a decision to airlift the aspirants. The decision was taken following the continuous closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway due to fresh snowfall across the Valley that triggered slippery conditions of the roads. The move according to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan is aimed to save ‘precious career of valley aspirants'. "The government took serious note of the difficulty faced by aspirants as turbulent weather conditions hampered air traffic and there was a genuine concern for the same that Governor SP Malik personnelly intervened in the matter," Khan told KNO, adding that administration quickly responded to panic stricken students. Khan said that special flights were arranged to take students so that they don't miss their exams and their precious time and career is saved. "179 Students flew yesterday and today 180 more students will board the specially arranged flight," Khan told KNO. According to Khan, a C-17 flight will land at Srinagar international airport at around 1 pm and the students will fly outside valley to sit in exams. As turbulent weather conditions disrupted air traffic at airport, administration came to rescue of panic stricken students and asked them to register themselves with Div Com Kashmir's office. Accordingly special, free of cost, flights were arranged for them. Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) was also approached by J&K government to set up an exam centre at Srinagar. “But after they turned downed plea, Governor took the measure so that students benefit and don't loose exams," sources inside the administration said. GATE is an All-India examination administered and conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology on behalf of the National Coordinating Board -GATE, Department of Education in ministry of human resources development (MHRD).(KNO)
